Therapeutic  Recreation

Recreation at The Carolton

The Carolton features a fully-staffed Therapeutic Recreation Department. Therapeutic recreation is an important part of a successful rehabilitation program.

  • Specially trained staff
  • Helps promote patients' physical, mental and emotional well-being
  • Enhances the patients' overall experience at The Carolton
  • Part of each patient's care plan, including short-term patients as well as long-term residents
  • Helps alleviate stress, depression and anxiety and aids in body strengthening and flexibility
  • Reduces some of the negative effects of illness or disability
  • Helps patients cope with symptoms of illness, loss of function and provides opportunities for personal growth and development
  • Enhances enjoyment
 

Entertainment and personal growth

The Carolton offers a variety of entertaining group activities daily, including scheduled evening programs.

  • Music, games, arts and crafts, movement/chair aerobics, aromatherapy, pet visits, travelogues, biographies
  • Group art classes, inter-generational programs and outdoor courtyard activities
  • Weekly professional performances including Dixieland, classical, golden standards and popular sing-along programs
  • Monthly birthday parties and special holiday celebrations are also planned
  • Family members are always welcome to attend any activities with their loved ones
  • Independent leisure materials include movies, crossword puzzles, magazines, music tapes, large print books, painting supplies, and knitting and crocheting supplies
  • Mail and package deliveries are made daily; Therapeutic Recreation staff members are also available to assist with sending mail

Spiritual programs


The Therapeutic Recreation Department plans weekly Christian services; Jewish services are scheduled during the high holy days.
